Cross-Border Moving · Canada ⇄ United States

Across the border
without the surprises.

Klacar moves households and businesses between Canada and the United States in both directions. Your goods ride on our equipment, and the customs paperwork is coordinated before the truck reaches the crossing.

Straight answer

How does a cross-border move actually work?

A cross-border move with Klacar has three parts: the pickup, the crossing and the delivery. The crossing needs the most preparation, so it is the part we plan first.

Before the truck is booked, we build the inventory, go through the paperwork with you and confirm the timing. Household goods going to the US enter on CBP Form 3299, which we prepare with you and you sign as the owner of the goods. Coming into Canada they travel in bond and you clear them at customs yourself. A licensed customs broker is only involved for commercial goods.

We are an asset-based carrier established in 2012, with our own trailers and crews based in Burlington, Ontario. Both directions, household and commercial, on one contract with one company responsible for your goods on both sides of the line.

Detailed inventory

Every item listed for the customs paperwork of the country you are entering.

03

Pack and load

Packed for the distance, then loaded onto a Klacar trailer with our own driver.

04

The crossing

Why it matters

The border does not
forgive guesswork.

A missing form at the crossing can hold a truck for a day. Here is how we plan to avoid that.

01Paperwork before pickup

Inventory and paperwork coordinated before the truck leaves, not at the booth.

02Both directions, one process

Canada to US and US to Canada use different forms, and we plan for both.

03One company, both sides

Your contract is with the carrier, and the same carrier delivers on the other side.

04An operations coordinator who knows the crossing

Call 289-855-5544 and speak to someone who can see the truck and the paperwork.

Questions and answers

Before you call

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

What paperwork do I need to move to the United States?

Household goods enter the US on CBP Form 3299, the declaration for your personal effects. We prepare the inventory and the form with you before pickup. No customs broker is needed for household goods.

And moving from the US into Canada?

Your goods travel in bond into Canada. You present yourself at Canadian customs with your proof of citizenship or your right to be in Canada, and customs clears them. We prepare the inventory with you before pickup.

Can you move a car with the household?

Yes. Vehicles ride with our freight service and need their own export and import paperwork, which we coordinate alongside the household move. See freight and auto transport.

How long does a cross-border move take?

It depends on the route and on customs timing. Every cross-border move is quoted with a delivery window in writing.

Do you move offices across the border too?

Yes. Commercial relocations between Ontario and the US are planned the same way as our office moves, with commercial customs documentation added.

How much does a move from Canada to the US cost?

It is priced like a long-distance move, by weight or volume and distance, with customs coordination included. Any duties or fees charged at the border are separate. You get one written price with a delivery window before booking.

Which crossing do you use?

From Burlington, the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie, Queenston-Lewiston and the Blue Water Bridge at Sarnia are all close. The crossing is chosen for the destination and the day, and it is confirmed with you in advance.

Do I have to be at the border when my goods cross?

Moving into Canada, you clear the goods yourself. They travel in bond and you present yourself at Canadian customs with your proof of citizenship or status, and we confirm where and when before pickup. Moving to the US, we go through the steps with you before the move.

What can I not bring across?

Firearms, plants, some foods and alcohol have their own rules in both directions. Check the current rules with the border agency, and tell us about these items before the move.

Do you handle commercial shipments across the border?

Yes. Offices, equipment and freight both directions, with commercial customs documentation. See freight shipping.

Do you prepare the customs paperwork yourselves?

Yes, for household goods. Moving to the US, we prepare the CBP Form 3299 with you. Moving to Canada, your goods travel in bond and you clear them at customs with your proof of citizenship or status. Commercial goods clear through a licensed customs broker.

Can you store my goods before the move?

Yes, in our Burlington warehouse, for a night or for months. See storage.
